Switch 2 users are reporting constant Joy-Con connection issues – the HDMI cable is the likely culprit

Jul 02, 2025

Reports have been surfacing in major way over the last 48 hours or so of issues regarding Joy-Con connectivity on Switch 2. If you have been experiencing constant or even internment connection issues with your Switch 2 controllers, that HDMI cable you’re using is likely the culprit. Details await below.

Reports have been flooding in over on Reddit and elsewhere regarding users experiencing connection issues with Joy-Con on Switch 2 – the darn things just keep disconnecting on them, and quite frequently (every couple of minutes or so).

While no one around the 9to5 offices has been experiencing this issue just yet, it looks like all you have to do is make sure you’re using the HDMI cable your Switch 2 came with, or at least a high-quality Ultra High Speed variant.

In other words, don’t try to use the same HDMI cable that you have been using for your Switch 1, like I almost did, or just any old cable laying around the house. There are, according to Nintendo’s support page, some Ultra High Speed models that will do the trick, but if you are experiencing this Joy-Con issue swap out your cable for the one the console came with. And keep this all in mind if you ever go to lug your Switch 2 away from its home base or flip out your setup at any point.

Here are the details from Nintendo’s support page for reference:

Use this article when the wireless communication between the Joy-Con 2 controller and a Nintendo Switch 2 console is repeatedly interrupted, causing the controller to lose sync and resync.
